Behind the Lens at Point Break Festival 2025 - Music, Media Access, and the energy of Virginia beach oceanfront
Point Break Festival 2025 brought two days of music, culture, and oceanfront energy to Virginia Beach on June 21–22, 2025. Held along the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, the festival delivered exactly what a summer beach music festival should feel like: sand under your feet, music carrying across the boardwalk, crowds moving from stage to stage, and a lineup built around reggae, rock, alternative, and coastal festival culture. IMGoing Events listed Point Break Festival 2025 as a returning event at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, with Stick Figure and Slightly Stoopid among the major headliners.
For me, this festival was more than just another event to photograph. I had the opportunity to help out IMGoing Events and received a media pass that gave me pit access throughout the weekend. That access put me right where the energy was happening: in front of the barricade, between the artists and the crowd, with a camera in hand and only a few seconds at a time to capture the right moment.

Pit access changes everything. From the crowd, you experience the festival as a fan. From the pit, you see the production working in real time. You see the lighting cues, the artist interactions, the crowd reactions, the stage crew moving with purpose, and the small details most people miss. It is fast, loud, controlled chaos, and it forces you to stay locked in.
My role was not just to capture cool performance shots. I also had a shot list to complete, and that list included getting photos of every event sponsor represented throughout the festival. That meant moving beyond the stage and documenting the full festival footprint: sponsor activations, branded areas, signage, vendor spaces, and the pieces that help make a large-scale event possible.
That type of assignment is important because sponsors are not just background logos. They are part of the event experience. IMGoing describes its approach to partnerships as helping brands become “part of the story, not just the signage,” and that is exactly what I was focused on capturing: proof that the sponsors were visible, active, and woven into the atmosphere of the weekend.
Point Break Festival 2025 delivered a strong two-day lineup. Saturday featured Slightly Stoopid, SOJA, Iration, The Elovaters, Moon Taxi, Little Stranger, Bumpin Uglies, Shwayze, Eli-Mac, aurorawave, Jarv, and One Culture. Sunday brought Stick Figure, 311, Collie Buddz, The Movement, Tribal Seeds, The Original Wailers, Bikini Trill, Kyle Smith, Dale and the ZDubs, Grateful Dub, Roots of Creation, Cultivated Mind, and Ashley LaRue Band.
Capturing more than the artists
One of the biggest takeaways from working this event was realizing how much goes into telling the full story of a festival.
The artist photos matter, of course. Those are the moments people immediately connect with: the singer at the mic, the guitarist stepping into the lights, the drummer mid-hit, the crowd reaching toward the stage. But a festival recap is incomplete without the details around the performance.
That is why the sponsor shot list mattered. Every activation, every booth, every sign, every branded area, and every vendor space helped show the scale of the event. Those images are valuable because they show the business side of the festival. They help event organizers, sponsors, vendors, and future partners see how the event looked, how people engaged with it, and how the brand presence showed up in the real environment.
A good festival gallery should show three things: the performers, the crowd, and the infrastructure that made the experience happen. Point Break gave me the chance to capture all three.
Final Thoughts
Point Break Festival 2025 was a strong reminder of why event photography matters.
Photos are not just for social media posts. They document the energy, the production, the partnerships, the crowd, and the work that goes into creating a memorable event. Having the opportunity to help out IMGoing Events, work with a media pass, access the pit, and complete a sponsor-focused shot list gave me a deeper appreciation for what it takes to capture a festival from the inside.
From the bands to the crowd, from the sponsor activations to the beachside atmosphere, Point Break Festival 2025 brought real attention to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. It was loud, colorful, fast-moving, and full of moments worth documenting.
And for STRVMDA, it was the kind of experience that reinforces exactly why I do this: to capture the story behind the event, not just the event itself.
